Triangle Makerspaces with 3D Printing Access

From Raleigh to Durham to Chapel Hill, the Triangle has a thriving makerspace scene. Here's where you can access 3D printers and learn the craft.

The Triangle's maker community is one of the strongest in the Southeast. Whether you want to learn 3D printing, access industrial equipment, or just hang out with fellow makers, these spaces have you covered.

Raleigh

Splat Space — Raleigh's longest-running hackerspace offers multiple FDM printers and regular workshops. Great for beginners who want to learn hands-on.

NC State Libraries — NC State's Hunt Library and other campus libraries offer 3D printing services to students and community members. They have both FDM and resin printers available.

Durham

The Forge — Durham's premier makerspace with an impressive selection of tools including multiple 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC machines. Monthly membership gives you access to all equipment plus training.

Durham County Library — The Main Library downtown offers free 3D printing services. Bring your STL file and library staff will help you get it printed.

Chapel Hill

UNC Be A Maker (BeAM) Network — UNC's makerspace network provides 3D printing access across campus. Multiple locations with FDM and resin printing capabilities.

Why Makerspaces and 3D Tri Work Together

Makerspaces are fantastic for learning and occasional projects. But when you need consistent output, specialized materials, or don't have time to run the printer yourself, that's where the 3D Tri community comes in. Many of our most active printer operators got their start at local makerspaces before building their own setups.

Think of it as a pipeline: learn at a makerspace, get inspired, maybe buy your own printer, and then join 3D Tri to both use and offer printing services. The community grows stronger when people move through this journey.
